PR204 Realignment

Client
Manitoba Infrastructure (RM St. Clements, Manitoba)

Dates
2016 - 2017

Team
Roberta Connon, Amber Flett, Christina Blouw

InterGroup conducted a site assessment of the proposed realignment corridor including pedestrian survey and intensive shovel testing program. The investigation resulted in the discovery of heritage resources in a 6 metre square area, artifacts relating to the historic and Pre-Contact periods were recovered from depths of 10 cm to 26 cm below surface and was registered as archaeological site, EaLf-62.

The assessment also included archival research to contextualize the nature of the artifact finds. The results of the archival research demonstrated river lot ownership dating to the late 19thcentury. In addition, historic maps were found showing the locations of buildings in close proximity of the artifact finds. Scope of work also included conducting artifact analysis and writing the technical report.

Recommendation for establishing a protective buffer around the archaeological site and monitoring during construction was implemented with additional artifacts recovered.
