PR204 Realignment

Manitoba Infrastructure manages the province’s infrastructure network, including developing transportation policy and legislation. InterGroup completed a heritage resource impact assessment in the Rural Municipality of St. Clements when Manitoba Infrastructure proposed realigning Provincial Road 204. The investigation included a pedestrian survey and intensive shovel testing, through which history and Pre-contact artefacts were recovered. A new archaeological site was registered as a result of the investigation.

Bipole III Transmission Reliability Project

InterGroup is the Project Archaeologist for the monitoring and mitigation of archaeological sites and Indigenous sacred or ceremonial sites along the 1,384 km Bipole III transmission line route. The scope of this work includes assessment of environmentally sensitive site locations to determine archaeological potential, conducting field assessment and developing and enacting mitigation strategies for identified sites. Additional activities included the training of project contractors and providing advisory support to the project proponent on the protection of heritage resources.

Nipigon Waterfront Development Stage 2 Property Assessment

Scope of work included a Stage 2 Property Assessment to identify the location of Red Rock House, a late 19 th century Hudson's Bay Company post, through a combination of ground penetrating radar and strategic subsurface testing. Mitigation plans were designed according to Provincial standards and guidelines to avoid the preserved underlying structures and implemented a buffer zone for future waterfront development.

Keeyask Generation Project

InterGroup has coordinated heritage studies for the Keeyask Project since 2005.

InterGroup's archaeologists have participated in heritage resource impact assessments for the Keeyask Project, including monitoring, surface artifact collection and salvage of heritage sites.

InterGroup works with Manitoba Hydro on development and implementation of a heritage resources database.

We employ the concept of Participatory Action Research which includes hiring and training of local First Nation community members during heritage investigations.

Conawapa Generation Project
