Socio-economic Consultant

Our consultants work closely with public utilities, government, regulators, and customer groups of all backgrounds, including many Indigenous communities. Our multi-disciplinary team has expertise in impact assessment, economics, resource management, archaeology, anthropology and more.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, manage and complete socio-economic impact assessments
- Assist our clients with a variety of socio-economic research projects
- Strategically build the practice through successful business development initiatives including preparation of proposals and client presentations
- Organize and participate in public engagement and consultations with key stakeholders including project proponents, government agencies, Indigenous leadership/community members, and the general public
- Lead, inspire and mentor junior staff
Requirements:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, environmental studies, natural resources management or a related discipline
- Minimum eight years of experience in a consulting role
- Minimum five years of experience planning, managing, and completing socio-economic impact assessments
- Demonstrated ability to generate and develop new business and cultivate long term relationships with clients
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and various levels of government
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey messages clearly to diverse audiences
- Project management experience, with a proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
Desirable qualities:
- Experience with project-related agreements and proposal writing
- Familiarity and training with public engagement planning and implementation (i.e. IAP2) is an asset
- Experience with preparing Indigenous land use plans
- Experience and/or training in facilitation is ideal
- Familiarity with preparing economic impact assessments, input/output modelling, population projections and labour force supply and demand modelling would be an asset
- Experience as an expert witness would be an asset
- Proficiency in French, Anishinaabemowin, Cree, or other languages is an asset
