Archaeologist
Primary Location: Winnipeg, MB
Travel: 50-75% of the Time
InterGroup is a dynamic consulting firm headquartered in the vibrant city of Winnipeg, Manitoba on Treaty #1 territory. With a legacy spanning fifty years, we’ve redefined the landscape of consultancy across Canada. Our core service areas include socio-economic impact assessment, utility rate regulation, and archaeology and heritage services.
Our team members work closely with public utilities, government, regulators, and customer groups of all backgrounds, including many Indigenous communities. Our multi-disciplinary team has expertise in impact assessment, economics, resource management, archaeology, anthropology and more.
We are excited to welcome a skilled and highly motivated Archaeologist for a six-month full-time term from May – October with the opportunity for an extension. Fieldwork for the 2026 season may include work in Manitoba, Ontario, and Nunavut.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading fieldwork including conducting pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, and data recording
- Writing and preparing reports
- Assisting with the preparation of proposals
Qualifications:
- Experience leading fieldwork, including the supervision of crew members
- Ability to hold a Heritage Permit in Manitoba
- Experience identifying archaeological sites, cultural sites, and related artifacts
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; with a proven track record in efficient report writing
- Self-motivated and able to work well as part of a team
- Firm understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards associated with cultural heritage in Manitoba
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, or a related discipline (MA preferred)
- Minimum five years of experience in Cultural Resource Management
- Experience working in remote locations and with First Nations and Inuit
Desirable Qualities:
- Membership to a professional or provincial archaeological society (i.e. MAS) or other related association
- Ability to hold a permit in Ontario and/or Nunavut or possess the required experience to become a permit holder in the near future
- Understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards associated with cultural heritage in Ontario and Nunavut
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Valid First Aid and CPR training
- Fluency in Anishinaabemowin, Cree, French, or other languages
